LSU football took the fight to Miami from start to finish, and ultimately, was the more disciplined and complete team on all sides of the ball.

Last season, Miami started the year with a 10-game win streak, and peaked at No. 2 in the country, before losing the last three games. The downfall began with an upset loss against Pitt. The following game was 38-3 blowout loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship Game. The Hurricanes’ season ended with a 24-34 loss in the Orange Bowl against Wisconsin.

Miami continued its losing streak into the 2018 season after losing a neutral site game against the LSU Tigers. From start to finish, the Tigers played better than Miami in every area of the game. The score was 33-3 at the start of the fourth quarter, and ended 33-17 after LSU took their foot off the pedal.

It’s clear that the polls made their biggest mistakes in the preseason ranking with Miami at No 8. And we can assume LSU will be ranked much higher than No. 25 next week. However, how big of a change is unknown.

Here are a few specific takeaways from the Week 1 game.
