Texas Continues to Struggle
It seems like for the past four years, Texas has tried everything to get its program back to where it used to be. Charlie Strong was hired in 2014 to take over for Mack Brown. However, in his three years with the team, Strong had an overall record of 16-21 and loss their lone bowl game trip during his tenure with the team.
Yet, in Strong’s first year with the University of South Florida, he took the Bulls to a winning record of 10-2 and a win in the Birmingham Bowl. Current Texas head coach, Tom Herman, previously put Houston back on the map, with a two-year record of 22-5. However, since taking over the Longhorn’s program, Herman is 7-7.
In Week 1, the Longhorns lost to a team that has been overwhelmed by tragedy and controversy. It is important to not take any credit away from the incredible adversity the Maryland players have overcome.
However, with the extensive talent and ability on the field for Texas, there was no reason the game should have resulted in a 29-34 loss.
The Longhorns turned over the ball on each of their last three possession of the game. Texas faces Tulsa next week, which should help them get a win under their belt. However after Week 2, Texas will have a tough opponent every week, until Kansas, in their last game of the regular season.
It looks like Texas and Tom Herman may have a long season ahead.
