5. Alex Hornibrook leads the Big Ten in passing

With non-conference play, even crazier things can happen because the balance of competition between conference foes is so different. With the Badgers playing an inferior New Mexico team, followed by a BYU team whose defense looked brutal in 2017- do not be surprised if junior quarterback Alex Hornibrook starts off hot and picks up where he left off in the team’s Orange Bowl finale last year.

A lot of Hornibrook’s success will lean on the status of wideouts Cephus and Davis. While Cephus’ future with the program does not look all that promising, Davis returning would give a balanced passing attack another weapon.

While Hornibook has not impressed anyone with his passing ability, especially stacked up to some of the talent in the Big Ten, the Badgers’ light slate (before Iowa) will give Hornibrook a chance to gain some confidence and break out of his shell. Should Hornibrook actually pull off this feat, it is not likely it will hold as the Big Ten possesses some of the best quarterbacks in the nation.
