The running back position is a major concern

Notre Dame fans don’t worry about Winbush carrying the rock so much. Your running back position will be just fine as the season progresses. Although Jafar Armstrong scored two rushing touchdowns on the ground, Tony Jones Jr. did a good job running the ball when he got the opportunity.

He ran the ball nine times for 45 yards and even though he didn’t find the end zone, had he gotten more reps he could have easily had a 100+ yard rushing performance. The rest of the running backs didn’t do anything of note as they ran the ball four times -7 yards.

The Fighting Irish offense will need to have a balanced attack running the ball, and coach Kelly shouldn’t expect to rely on Winbush to run the ball 15+ times a game and not take a beating.

Week 2 the matchup is against Ball State, so a dominant performance by Jones should be expected from the Notre Dame faithful.
