Pac-12 Football: USC, Stanford atop Week 1 power rankings
By Dana Becker
J.T. Daniels became just the second freshman to start the opener for the Trojans, and after a slow start, he found his groove.
Daniels passed for 282 yards and a touchdown, USC ran for 219 yards and helped set the stage for an upcoming collision with Stanford in Week 2.
Aca’deric Ware had 110 yards, Stephen Carr broke free on a 40-yard run and Vavae Malepeai had two rushing touchdowns on the day.
Daniels, who completed 22 of 35, continued his strong bond with fellow freshman Amon-Ra St. Brown, who hauled in seven passes covering 98 yards and a score. Daniels also hit seven other receivers.
The defense, though, was absolutely gashed by UNLV. Lexington Thomas ran for 136 yards, quarterback Armani Rogers added 82, and the Rebels finished with 308 yards on 42 carries. Despite his struggles in Week 1, Stanford’s Bryce Love should be licking his chops after reading that.
