3. Brandon Wimbush approaches 400 total yards

Quarterback Brandon Wimbush eclipsed 300 total yards on three occasions over the course of last season. Wimbush recorded 303 yards (207 of them rushing) against Boston College, 311 against Stanford, and nearly 400 in a shootout vs. Wake Forest. Heading into a matchup with the Ball State Cardinals, Wimbush has the chance to surpass all of those numbers.

Despite a few commanding drives to kick off the season opener, Wimbush ended up having somewhat of a quiet night against a stout Michigan defense. The senior would finish the game with 170 passing yards and 59 yards on the ground while mixing in a touchdown and an interception.

However, facing off against the nation’s 125th ranked defense in opponent points per game in 2017 should allow Wimbush to expel any lingering frustration, and then some. Also, Wimbush will have his choice of how to accumulate his yardage as the 2017 Cardinals finished 90th and 88th in rushing and passing yards allowed per game, respectively.

All things considered, Wimbush is going to have all the wind in his sails against a defense that should provide many more running lanes and holes in coverage. This game should also provide the opportunity for Wimbush to iron out any remaining kinks, hopefully preparing him for upcoming matchups against Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, and eventually Stanford.
