3. Will Grier & Co. hang 70 on the Penguins

This prediction is bold for two reasons: 70 points is 10 touchdowns — that’s five more than West Virginia scored against Tennessee. But also, how long will head coach Dana Holgorsen leave Will Grier in the game if it’s decided early?

The Mountaineers managed only 38 points when they faced the Penguins two years ago, but this year’s team is completely different. Will Grier is the starting quarterback. David Sills is a household name for his on-field production rather than some scholarship he received when he was a teenager. And Dana Holgorsen is a more complete head coach.

It’s early, but it’s also time for coach Holgorsen and the ‘Eers to get this train rolling. Scoring 45 against Tennessee was nice, but to continue moving up in the polls, the Mountaineers need to dominate Youngstown State.

Assuming Grier and the starters get at least three quarters of game action, the Mountaineers should have no problem scoring 50 points. This is a team that Holgorsen said preseason should average 40 per game — is 70 really unrealistic against Youngstown State?
