Georgia Football: 5 Reasons the Bulldogs will beat South Carolina
Georgia football travels to South Carolina in the first SEC conference game of the year. Here are the five reasons Georgia will beat the Gamecocks.
Both the Georgia Bulldogs and the South Carolina Gamecocks opened their season in Week 1 against fairly easy opponents. Georgia welcomed Austin Peay to Athens with a 45-0 blowout. South Carolina was a bit more hospitable to Coastal Carolina in their 49-15 win. In sum, both teams had the luxury of smoothly entering the season against teams of low caliber.
However now, the two teams will face off in Columbia, South Carolina, in one of college football’s first rivalry games of the year.
There are a few interesting similarities between these two opposing head coaches: Will Muschamp and Kirby Smart. Both coaches are entering their third year at their respective schools. Prior to their current coaching jobs, they both were at other SEC schools. Also, both coaches were players at the University of Georgia and played the same position, defensive back. Muschamp was at the school as a player from 1991 to 1994, and Smart played the following year, 1995 to 1998.
Coach Smart has accomplished significantly more, in his two years with the Bulldogs, than Coach Muschamp has with his squad. Highlighted by their trip to the CFP National Championship game last season, Coach Smart has built the program to be one of the best in the nation. This Saturday will be a challenge for Georgia, but in the end, the Bulldogs will come out on top.
