A number of college football players suffered injuries in Week 1, putting their Week 2 status in question and giving opportunities for young players to step up.

Week 1 of college football was certainly exciting and included multiple games between ranked opponents and even a few upsets along the way. Week 2 may be a little tamer than Week 1, but there will be upsets as always. The only matchup this week with ranked opponents is No. 15 USC vs. No. 13 Stanford.

The most significant injury this week was to Miami wide receiver Ahmmon Richards, but a few other key players for different teams suffered injuries as well. Included below is the injury situations for different players and how they will impact each team in Week 2.

WR Ahmmon Richards, Miami (FL)

Richards will not play in Miami’s game against Savannah State due to a knee injury. This will be a major loss for a Miami team that got dominated in their opener against LSU.

He had a great freshman season with 944 receiving yards, three touchdowns, and 49 receptions. His production was cut in half in 2017 with 439 receiving yards, three touchdowns, and only 24 receptions.

In 2018, he was slated to be the team’s leading receiver after Christopher Herndon and Braxton Berrios were both selected in the 2018 NFL Draft. Richards only had one nine-yard reception before being injured in Week 1.

Now, the Hurricanes will need Jeff Thomas to continue to play well this season and have Lawrence Cager and Darrell Langham take on larger roles until Richards is able to return.
