Ed Oliver has two huge obstacles to overcome in his quest for a Heisman Trophy. He plays defense, and he plays in the Group of Five.

Despite these burdens, Oliver continues to dazzle and turn himself into a one-man wrecking crew for the Houston defense.

In the Cougars’ season opener against Rice, Oliver logged 13 tackles (five solo), 3.5 tackles for loss, and spent a good part of the day harassing Rice quarterback Shawn Stankavage en route to a 45-27 Houston win.

Oliver is one of those rare talents who can completely take over a game and change the flow and momentum. His game against Rice was just a preview of what we are likely to see once the Cougars get into the meaty part of their schedule.
