Miami football is reeling after a blowout loss to the LSU Tigers in Week 1. Here are my three bold predictions for the ‘Canes against Savannah State.

The Miami Hurricanes suffered a major setback on their return to being “The U” in Week 1. The 33-17 loss to the LSU Tigers wasn’t as close as the final score indicates. Miami was out coached and out matched from the minute Nick Brousette broke a 50-yard touchdown run to put LSU up 10-3. After that big run the ‘Canes folded, much like they did in the 2005 Peach Bowl to these same Tigers of Baton Rouge.

Miami has a week to recover by facing a cupcake in Week 2. The Savannah State Tigers are not just an FCS program but they’re a bad FCS program. This isn’t like facing North Dakota State or Montana — the Tigers are a bad football program that Miami should dominate from the first snap.

Miami slipped in the S&P+ analytics rankings from 13th before the loss to LSU all the way down to 38th. A good showing against a bad FCS team won’t help Miami’s S&P+ ranking as it takes into account the quality of opponent, but it will help the ‘Canes confidence if they can secure an early blowout. The Miami Hurricanes season is not lost, it’s just taken a major knockdown in the first round.
