By Shelbie Warr
Mississippi State football gets its first true test of the season as it heads to Kansas to take on Kansas State. Here’s the preview for the matchup.
Mississippi State opened the season with a real difficult matchup against the SFA Lumberjacks. Yes, that was extremely sarcastic. However, the do get a true test as they head on Manhattan, Kan., to take on the Kansas State Wildcats. Is this team much of a test? Well it is more than SFA, that is for sure.
The Wildcats return eight offensive starters from last season, including all five offensive linemen. On the opposite side, quarterback Nick Fitzgerald is making his season debut for Mississippi State after serving a one game suspension for a violation of team rules.
It’ll be quite an interesting and exciting game, especially for those in maroon. Here is how you can watch the matchup:
Date: Saturday, Sept. 8
Time: 12:00 p.m. ET
Location: Manhattan, Kan.
Venue: Snyder Family Stadium
TV: ESPN
Live Stream: WatchESPN | FuboTV
Keys to Victory
For Kansas State, the key is to shut down Nick Fitzgerald and Co. This team is one of the best in the SEC in terms of total offense and for the Wildcats, shutting that down needs to be the top priority. They will also need to match what the Bulldogs are putting out if they have any hope to make this one competitive.
For Mississippi State, they must stick to their guns and play their game. They cannot look at Kansas State as a lesser team than them. They cannot write this team off and play at half speed and half intensity. The Wildcats have the talent and could make a run at an upset if Mississippi State isn’t ready.

Prediction
This is an easy win for Mississippi State that will further push them up the rankings and up in terms of confidence, which will be key as they head into the meat of their schedule. Look for Nick Fitzgerald to start of 2018 with a bang and for the rest of his team to follow suit. While this one may not go how the Wildcats would hope, it will be a strong learning experience for the group as they fight to make a name for themselves in the Big 12 this season.
Final Score: Mississippi State 28, Kansas State 17
