Georgia football seized control of the SEC East with a road win over South Carolina, but both teams proved their worth in a tilt of SEC East powers.

The SEC East featured one of the marquee matchups of Week 2 as the Georgia Bulldogs ventured to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks in their first conference matchups of 2018. The Bulldogs were coming off an SEC Championship while South Carolina quietly produced a 10-win season in 2017.

Georgia jumped out to a 14-0 lead before South Carolina punched back, bringing the score to 17-10 with under six minutes remaining in the second quarter. A botched punt followed by a 44-yard field goal from Georgia’s Rodrigo Blankenship stretched the lead to 20-10. The Bulldogs never looked back.

South Carolina was limited in the second half, with the exception of a beautiful 44-yard touchdown pass from Jake Bentley to Bryan Edwards in the fourth quarter.  Georgia moves on to play Middle Tennessee in Week 3 while South Carolina will look to bounce back against Marshall. Before they get there, here are a few things we learned about Georgia, South Carolina and the SEC East as a whole.
