Memphis football’s costly turnovers give the Navy Midshipmen a late lead in a late comeback win. Where does the team go from here?

Memphis didn’t have the best of starts in this game. Memphis opened up the game with back to back fumbles and ended the half with an interception on a Hail Mary pass.

Navy kicked things off with a field goal on their opening drive to cap off a 12 play and 32-yard drive. Memphis wouldn’t find much success on offense until Memphis’ running back Darrell Henderson scored his first of three touchdowns on a 2-yard punch-in.

Navy came back on the next drive and Malcolm Perry capped off an 11-play, 75-yard drive with a nine-yard touchdown rush.

The second half was far more productive for Memphis as Darrell Henderson asserted his dominance as a rusher and ripped apart the Navy defense for a 78-yard rush and his second touchdown with 7:35 left in the third quarter.

Navy was making headway on a drive until quarterback Malcolm Perry got tackled from behind and briefly left the game. Backup Garret Lewis made moves with a 12-yard rush but followed it up with a lost fumble. Memphis capitalized on the fumble with a 59-yarder from Darrell Henderson for his third touchdown of the game.

Memphis was looking to pad their lead but a costly fumble and fourth turnover gave Navy the ball on the Memphis 27. Navy Scored two plays later when Malcolm Perry took off for 19 yards and a score cutting the Memphis lead to 21-16.

After a punt from Memphis, Navy killed the clock and scored a touchdown with 2:37 left in the game to give the Midshipmen a 22-21 lead. Memphis went six plays and 33 yards but took a sack on fourth down to give Navy the ball back for the fifth time this game. Navy killed the rest of the clock and took home the win.

Stat leaders for both squads were…
