TCU football was the heavy favorite in their rivalry game with SMU, but the Horned Frogs were tested early by the Mustangs.

It didn’t look like this game might get played as storms rolled through the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex on Friday night. Eventually, though, the lightning passed and the teams were permitted to kick off in front of a somewhat depleted crowd as the rain kept falling.

SMU came out strong, punching in a long touchdown early and forcing TCU to play catch-up throughout most of the first half. It didn’t matter that the Horned Frogs were a ranked squad and SMU was still looking for their first win of the season, TCU suddenly had a game on their hands and had to work for a hard-fought 42-12 victory.

The final score and the progression of this game tell two vastly different stories. This win counts just as much for TCU as their victory over Southern in Week 1, but the Frogs learned what it means to push through adversity and more against SMU. Here are three takeaways from the battle for the Iron Skillet.
