Virginia Tech football rolled Florida State in Week 1. The Hokies kept the mojo going in a dominant win over William and Mary at home in Week 2.

After stunning the Florida State Seminoles on the road in Week 1, Virginia Tech returned home in Week 2 to face a much more manageable opponent. If the Hokies were able to dispatch of a talented FSU squad with ease, the Tribe of William and Mary weren’t expected to be much of a challenge, and they weren’t.

By the time halftime came around this one was over. The Hokies were victims of one long pass play as Shon Mitchell connected with Nick Muse for 71-yards midway through the second quarter. The Tribe punched it in from the redzone on the next play, otherwise, it was all Hokies early on. Virginia Tech fumbled on its first drive, but scored on its next five possessions to take a 38-7 lead into the break.

Josh Jackson ended his day 12-of-16 for 217 yards with one touchdown through the air and one more on the ground. Nine different Hokies registered a carry as the team collectively churned out 305 yards on the ground and seven rushing touchdowns.

Virginia Tech was equally impressive on the other side of the ball. W&M registered zero rushing yards in the first half on 12 carries. They finished with 34 yards on the ground on 29 carries. Outside of the long pass play in the first half, Tribe quarterback Mitchell was 13-for-23 passing for 137 yards. All in all, Virginia Tech took care of and beat an inferior team with ease.

Virginia Tech has another non-conference test next weekend when they host East Carolina at home. Once again, the Hokies will be considerable favorites. Depending on how the rest of the teams above them fair over the next week, Virginia Tech could find themselves in the top 10 before they play their next ACC game at Duke on Sep. 29.
