Wisconsin football found themselves in a close game against New Mexico before outlasting the Lobos. What did we learn about the Badgers in the sloppy win?

The opening slate of games on Week 2 featured one marquee matchup (UCLA at Oklahoma) and a handful of games that weren’t expected to be nailbiters, at least on paper. Wisconsin’s win over New Mexico wasn’t all that close when the clock hit zero, but the process that led to the 45-14 final score was bumpier than Badger fans could have expected.

27 minutes into the second quarter, New Mexico led 7-3. It wasn’t enough of a deficit for Wisconsin to be too troubled, but it was enough game time to wonder what was going on with the Badgers and whether or not they’d be able to fix it any time soon.

Wisconsin was eventually able to kick off the rust and roll to a comfortable win over New Mexico in front of a red-clad crowd at Camp Randall Stadium. What did we learn about the two squads on Saturday? Is Wisconsin ready to contend for a Big Ten title, and more?
