Boise State football is very good, and UConn is absolutely dreadful. We probably should’ve seen this coming, but we’re just glad that it’s over now

There’s usually a little bit of introduction that needs to be done in the takeaway pieces. Some background on what happened in the game, some hedging on both teams still having plenty of season left to play, and the usual disclaimers that takeaways are meant to be quick and tend to be a bit based in overreaction.

None of that is really necessary in this, the three takeaways from Boise State’s win over UConn. Boise State completely beat the brakes off of UConn for 60 minutes. It was never anywhere near close, as Boise State shut down UConn’s offense while absolutely lighting up their defense. It was full on beat down, and there’s really only so much you can say about a full on beat down.

We’ll get into full takeaways here in a bit, but the main thing that needs to be said about this game is that UConn and Boise State looked like teams in completely different leagues. Not conferences, like they are, but leagues. Boise State looked like a good or even great FBS team, and I’m not sure if UConn would win more than eight games as an FCS team.
