There will be some shifts in the AP Top 25 now that all the results of Week 2 are in the books. Here are our latest projections for the poll.

The AP Top 25 is something of a meritocracy, and something of a standard-issue power grab. Once a team snatches a certain spot in the polls, it has traditionally been a matter of climbing when teams ahead lose and falling once a team sustains a defeat.

In the College Football Playoff era, things have changed a bit. The four-team postseason extravaganza has effectively shut down the AP Top 25 (as well as the Coaches Poll) as arbiters of the national championship picture.

But the AP Top 25 still has significance as the oldest major poll system still in existence. Each year, the list sets the tone for where teams will ultimately fall in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s hierarchy. And they have become more proactive about the way teams get ranked, assessing more frequently after each week.

Following Week 1, there were some major shifts as a result of the play on the field. As more data points emerge, we will continue to see some major shifts in the Top 25 lists put out by both the AP and the coaches. Here are the latest projections for how the AP Top 25 will look when the latest rankings are released on Sunday.
