College Football Playoff 2018: Projected top 4 after Week 2
3. Clemson (2-0)
The answer to that question is yet to be known. Clemson beat the Aggies 28-26. The Tigers’ defensive line has been constantly praised. However, Texas A&M quarterback, Kellen Mond, used his mobility to elude the Clemson big men and keep the game close.
Mond won the quarterback battle. If the Clemson defense struggles to shut down a quarterback who was not even guaranteed to start, how are they going to fare against quarterbacks like Jarrett Stidham or Jake Fromm in potential playoff games?
Dabo Swinney did not confirm that Kelly Bryant will be the sole man under center for the Tigers. It makes sense that he wants to keep getting Trevor Lawrence real game snaps in order to keep discourage him from transferring or in case Bryant gets hurt. Mixing quarterbacks throughout the game may end up disrupting the rhythm of the offense and come back to bite the Tigers in future close games, though.
On the flip side, Lawrence and Bryant both looked like All-American quarterbacks. Clemson might end up earning points for a quality win, should the Aggies do well in the SEC this year but if Jimbo Fisher struggles in his first year at Texas A&M, this close game could be a knock on Tigers’ season.
