Notre Dame football survived a major scared from Ball State in Week 2, but a superb defensive performance helped the Irish avoid the big upset.

After a Week 1 performance that saw Notre Dame look like legitimate contenders for the college football playoff, the Irish have to be considered a longshot to make it now.

Brandon Wimbush had an up and down game and the offense simply looked out of sync. If Notre Dame continues to play this poorly on offense they could be looking at a 3-4 loss season.

What should the Fighting Irish be worried about heading into their Week 3 matchup against Vanderbilt?

Here’s a look at the major overreactions you will probably hear from a Golden Domer this week.

5. Brandon Wimbush should be benched

Do Notre Dame fans think the offense will continue to struggle with Brandon Wimbush under center? His stat line could be very deceiving to the naked eye. He finished the game with 297 yards passing but had zero touchdowns to go along with three interceptions.

He continuously put the Fighting Irish defense in a hole that seemed to be impossible to get out of. Wimbush has been regarded as a quarterback who needed to work on his accuracy this offseason, and so far the results don’t seem to be paying off.

While he made a few plays against the Wolverines running the ball, he couldn’t get anything going in that area of his game as the Ball State defensive line bottled him up for nine total rushing yards on 11 carries.

Through 2 games Winbush has completed just 54 percent of his passes and been sacked six times. If he can’t get it going early against the Commodores there may be no choice but to bench the senior.
