Pac-12 Football: Stanford leaps USC, Arizona State jumps in Week 2 power rankings
By Dana Becker
After two weeks atop the rankings, USC was replaced by the Cardinal after a convincing win by David Shaw and crew.
Stanford held the Trojans without a touchdown, as Bryce Love got back on track. Love was bottled up by San Diego State, but broke free for 136 yards on 22 carries, including a 59-yard jaunt.
K.J. Costello continued to show his improvements, completing 16 of 27 for 183 yards without an interception. Costello also hooked up with Colby Parkinson for a touchdown, and also found both Kaden Smith and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside four times for over 130 yards.
The Cardinal defense kept USC’s deep and talented running backs in check, allowing just 114 yards on 37 carries. They also forced three turnovers, including two interceptions.
Stanford’s upcoming schedule will definitely test them, as they host UC Davis before back-to-back road dates at Oregon and Notre Dame.
