3. Kellen Mond could be a dark-horse Heisman contender

If you would have told me after the UCLA game last season that Kellen Mond would be the future leader of this Aggie team, I would have laughed in your face. He all but choked in that one, as did the Aggie defense. However, that was over a year ago and things have very obviously changed for the better in Aggieland for Mond and company.

It isn’t much of an overreaction to say that Mond is the future of this team at the quarterback position- at least for the next two seasons. However, at this point I am convinced he could be a dark horse Heisman contender.

Everyone and their momma talked about running back Trayveon Williams sneaking into that conversation with a strong performance this season. However, in my opinion, it is all about quarterback Mond and what he has been able to do so far this season.

The young gun put up 430 yards passing against a daunting Clemson defense. He didn’t fumble. He didn’t throw an interception. He evaded pressure in multiple situations and made seemingly negative plays into positive ones. His confidence, aided by the confidence of a coaching staff that he didn’t have with Kevin Sumlin, is evident with every snap. Who knows, in a few weeks we could be talking about Mond earning a trip to New York.
