Big 12 Football Power Rankings, Week 2: Is Oklahoma untouchable?
Kansas has won a football game on the road! I repeat, Kansas has won a football game on the road! For the first time in 46 tries, the Jayhawks finally grabbed a win away from Lawrence this weekend, as they didn’t just beat, but crushed Central Michigan, 31-7. With Pooka Williams leading the way, Kansas looked like an actual FBS team for the first time since 2016 when they beat Texas.
Obviously this will not last, but the Jayhawks do happen to be favored this weekend as Rutgers comes to town. Are we ready to live in a world in which Kansas is 2-1? Even more importantly, are we ready to live in a world where I put Kansas ahead of Texas in my Big 12 power rankings next week?
Shout out to the state of Kansas on being absolutely dreadful at football so far this season. After barely surviving against an FCS team in their first game of the season, Kansas State turned around and got smacked around by Mississippi State on Saturday, on the way to a 31-10 loss that wasn’t even as close as that final score indicates.
There’s really nothing about Kansas State to like right now. Their quarterbacks have both been bad through two games. Running back Alex Barnes is struggling. They gave up nearly 400 rushing yards in this game, including 211 on just 17 carries for Kylin Hill. Kansas State stinks, and I just don’t know if any amount of Bill Snyder magic can fix that.
