Big 12 Football Power Rankings, Week 2: Is Oklahoma untouchable?
The top four of the rankings remain the same this week, because no one lost or came close to losing out of this top group. Starting with the Cowboys, I thought they looked pretty good against South Alabama. It was close for most of the first half thanks to two South Alabama touchdowns, but a late half OSU score and some good second half defense kept things from getting too scary.
I’m still concerned about Taylor Cornelius. He put up a lot of yards, but also threw two interceptions and completed a pretty pedestrian 62 percent of his passes. I don’t think he’s the answer at quarterback, and after watching Boise State absolutely destroy UConn on Saturday, I’m pretty sure Oklahoma State will be falling to the Broncos this weekend.
West Virginia once again got the job done this past weekend, beating up on Youngstown State, and above all else, not doing anything dumb. Will Grier looked awesome, as did the rest of the offense. The defense struggled a bit, but I’m not super worried about it. This was a good performance, but nothing too exciting, hence the Mountaineers remaining behind TCU and Oklahoma.
This weekend should be their hardest test yet, as NC State is pretty good. I don’t see West Virginia losing that game, but it should tell us more about how good this team really is. I expect a big game from Will Grier against a pretty iffy defense.
