Mississippi State football improved to 2-0 last week by beating Kansas State and looks to keep it rolling against Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Joe Moorhead era in Starkville is off to a good start after a two consecutive wins to start the season. Last week, Mississippi State convincingly beat Kansas State 31-10 and it really wasn’t that close. After easily beating Stephen F. Austin easily without Nick Fitzgerald, the Bulldog quarterback returned to take care of the Wildcats.

Fitzgerald was a little rusty for his first game back following suspension for Week 1. The Bulldog quarterback went 11-for-27 for 154 yards and two touchdowns while also throwing a pick. Mississippi State is hoping all the kinks are worked out against the Ragin’ Cajuns.

Louisiana will be coming off a Week 2 bye after defeating Grambling 49-17 in Week 1. The Ragin’ Cajuns are also in their first year with a new head coach. Leading the Cajuns will be former Arizona State and Alabama assistant Billy Napier. Louisiana running back Trey Ragas rushed for 142 yards on 13 carries against Grambling to propel it to an easy victory.

This border state battle between Mississippi State and Louisiana will take place at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday and here’s everything you will need to know.

Keys to Victory

Mississippi State should easily beat the Ragin’ Cajuns but they shouldn’t take them lightly. Fitzgerald will have a better day than he did against Kansas State. Kylin Hill will have another big day after having 211 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries against Kansas State.

Louisiana will try and be more dynamic on offense than Kansas State was. Trey Ragas had 142 yards rushing to take Ragin Cajuns over 300 yards rushing against Grambling. Mississippi State should have no problem after holding Kansas State to 113 yards rushing in week two.

Prediction

Mississippi State will get off to a faster start than they did against Kansas State and jump out to a big lead. The Ragin’ Cajuns will be trailing 28-7 at half and it will not be looking good for them. Fitzgerald will have over 250 yards passing and another 100 yards rushing. Louisiana will add some late scores but this game will be over long before that.

Final Score: Mississippi State 49, Louisiana 17
