3. Defense suffocates K.J. Carta-Samuels

This is Colorado State’s second game this year against an SEC opponent. The first came in Week 2, a win over a downward-trending Arkansas squad that led 27-9 midway through the third quarter.  The comeback, sparked by four long scoring drives from CSU quarterback K.J. Carta-Samuels, left the Rams with an array of impressive offensive statistics.

Carta-Samuels ended his night with 389 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. The outing was much better than his previous game, a loss to Colorado in which he threw for 176 yards on 33 attempts with one touchdown and an interception. Neither compared to his 537-yard, five-touchdown debut against Hawaii in Week 0.

Which quarterback will the Gators see on Saturday? The same Carta-Samuels has shown up in each of the Rams’ first three games, the difference has been the level of play by the defenses he’s faced.

Hawaii ranks dead last in passing defense. Colorado is 67th and Arkansas is 111th. Florid is third. Carta-Samuels doesn’t find the endzone and throws multiple picks against the best defense he’s faced to date.
