2. A freshman sensation

Speaking of Mike Rose, he introduced himself as a freshman sensation after his big performance against Iowa. Rose led the Cyclones in tackles with 11, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Not bad for a redshirt freshman in his first game replacing a fan favorite like Joel Lanning at middle linebacker. He showed many Iowa State fans that he has tons of promise growing in Jon Heacock’s 3-4 scheme.

This video below showcases how mature Rose plays as a redshirt freshman, which is very impressive against a systematic team like Iowa.

He does a fantastic job of making his reads quick and flying to the football. Where he might run into some trouble is against teams with more speed, backs might be able to cutback on him fairly easy, but if Rose hits you, he’s likely coming up with the tackle. He could be in line for a huge game against the Sooners.
