3. Notre Dame’s depth, talent will take over

Let’s face it, Notre Dame is a supremely talented team and the Irish have more depth and elite players who were once blue-chip recruits than most Power Five programs.

The Fighting Irish used that talent to hold on against Ball State, a team that should never have been in the game in the first place. Notre Dame just out-muscled and held on late as the Cardinals just couldn’t overcome the Irish’s immense depth and potential at essentially every position.

Even at quarterback, Brandon Wimbush may not be the best passer around, but he’s one of the best running gunslingers in the country. Not many defenses can contain his running style under center and that’ll continue. And if it’s not Wimbush, the Irish have Ian Book and Phil Jurkovec to throw at the Commodores.

The offense has a ton of pieces and the defense has been exceeding expectations under first-year coordinator Clark Lea. The talent shined through against Michigan and Ball State and will do so once again versus the Commodores.
