4. Brett Rypien has never thrown TD vs. a ranked opponent

How’s this for a statistic? Brett Rypien may be one of the best Group of Five quarterbacks out there, but he has never thrown a touchdown pass against a ranked opponent.

Your first thought after hearing that crazy stat was probably, “Didn’t he impress against Oregon in the Las Vegas Bowl last season?” The answer to that is yes, but you have to remember, Oregon was not ranked at the time of the matchup and the Ducks finished slightly above .500 for the season.

Granted, Boise State hasn’t played many ranked teams in Rypien’s time with the Broncos, but he has faced some and to never throw a single touchdown pass must mean he struggles a bit on the big stage.

Those struggles will continue in a packed Boone Pickens Stadium with the fans breathing down his neck, but I do predict he will toss his first touchdown pass against a ranked foe on Saturday.

Unfortunately, it won’t be enough.
