Oklahoma State Football: 5 reasons Cowboys will beat Boise State
3. Oklahoma State defense has improved
OK, I know who the opponents have been for the Cowboys through the first two weeks, but the defense has still looked like a completely different unit.
Oklahoma State has held its two inferior opponents to an average of 237 yards per game, including less than 100 on the ground. That’s bad news for star running back Alexander Mattison who has rushed for nearly 200 yards on 25 carries this season. Oklahoma State will hold him in check and force Brett Rypien to burn the Cowboys with his arm.
The Cowboys are losing the turnover battle this season, but that’ll change on Saturday as Rypien will throw a couple of interceptions and Mattison will cough up a costly fumble.
Don’t sleep on this defense as it has been putting in the work to be an improved unit. Not many teams value both sides of the ball, but Oklahoma State is showing the effort it needs to become a complete team and that improved defense will be a nightmare for the Broncos.
