College Football: Every turnover prop, ranked
8. SMU Mustangs – Crown and Chalice
The SMU Mustangs have not one but two awards to honor their defensive players forced turnovers. The crown looks like one you’d give to the homecoming king, so Mustang fans could probably walk into their local Walmart and sport the sideline look. The chalice, on the other hand, is a favorite of mine. Sipping Gatorade, in a king’s cup, while the opposing team and their fans watch, is magnificent.
Well, it is until your team than coughs up the ball two plays later for a touchdown that was a part of 28 straight points being scored on your defense while your offense puts up a goose egg. The crown and chalice have potential to move up this list, but SMU has to win some games and not allow any blowouts.
7. Tulane – Mardi Gras Beads
The Tulane Green Wave introduced the college football world to the Louisiana version of the turnover chain. In its debut, the Mardi Gras beads provided a small spark to the Green Wave defense. Trailing 17-14, the Green Wave forced a red zone interception that would lead to a 39-yard field goal to the game.
The game eventually ended with an overtime loss for Tulane but the beads were present throughout the game. The Mardi Gras Beads for Tulane are great but stacked against the rest of the competition, it falls just a few spots short of breaking the top five.
