3. Kansas plays fast and confident early

The Jayhawks haven’t won back to back football games since September 10, 2011. They hadn’t won a road game since 2009 before their 31-7 win over Central Michigan. The Jayhawks ran all over the Chippewas and a utilized a strong defensive performance to end the drought.

Rutgers presents an opponent that the Jayhawks can beat and Kansas knows this. Rutgers won just four games last season, hasn’t had a winning a winning season since 2014. And they’re starting a freshman quarterback.

The Jayhawks will play fast and confident early, leaning on the defense that has played terrifically this season and riding the momentum gained from their last victory.

David Beaty is still coaching for his job and a win over Rutgers would be a massive chip for him to say he is moving the program in the right direction. With a record of 4-34 at the helm of Kansas, it’s pretty shocking that Beaty was even given an extra year. Winning over Rutgers would be a big step towards a successful season, which for Kansas would most likely constitute four wins. Kansas should pull out all the stops to get an early-season non-conference victory.
