USC Football: 3 reasons Trojans will have their way with Texas
By Shelbie Warr
Two underachieving teams face off in Austin on Saturday night. Both are struggling to find relevancy and consistency. Can USC football keep Texas in check?
The Longhorns and the Trojans have been an exciting match up since the 2005 National Championship. This season, USC is heading to Austin looking for another win over the Longhorns.
This one will be on Fox at 8:00 p.m. ET, live from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas. Do the Longhorns have what it takes to knock off USC and try to re-establish national relevancy? Do the Trojans bounce back from the loss to Stanford to knock out Texas for the second straight season?
As it stands, I am leaning toward USC and it’s not because I’m an Aggie. Let’s talk five reasons that the Trojans keep the Longhorns in their place.
3. This isn’t 2005 anymore in Austin
To say that the Longhorns have struggled of late is an understatement. This team hasn’t been the same since Mack Brown was fired. First Charlie Strong and now Tom Herman have promised big change and a return to national relevancy. The result? A never ending joke that Texas is not in fact back, as much as their fans want to claim that they are. Losses to Kansas and Maryland. Disgruntled fans and underachieving teams.
Simply put, no one cares about what happened in 2005 anymore. Nobody cares how good Vince Young was. No one even cares how good Colt McCoy was in the years after that. The Longhorns have to establish that they aren’t a joke in the Big 12 and beating USC would be a great place to start- though I don’t think it will happen.
