Arizona State football: Fighting Herms prep for San Diego State
Arizona State football looks to continue the great start to the Herm Edwards era this Saturday night as the square off with San Diego State.
It’s a big weekend for Arizona State, one week before possibly their biggest game of the year next weekend against Washington. We’re getting ahead of ourselves though. This Saturday, Arizona State is set to face off with San Diego State, in what may be the ultimate look ahead spot.
Fresh off their close win over Michigan State, the Sun Devils are in a great spot, and have built quite a bit of hype. They’re 2-0, and have surprised quite a bit of people early this season. Herm Edwards has does an excellent job through two games, and has a chance to further the hype this weekend.
San Diego State is no slouch though. The Aztecs may not be as good as they have been in the past few years, but running back Juwan Washington is excellent, and their defense will be a great test for the Arizona State offense. This has all of the makings for a great Pac-12 after dark game, and with two very good defenses, Juwan Washington, Manny Wilkins and N’Keal Harry, it could be an extremely fun evening affair.
Now, this is a game that Arizona State should probably win. However, if we’ve learned anything from the first two weeks of the season, anything can happen on the west coast. That means we could be in for a wild ride. Or, more likely, we could be in for two teams combining for fewer than 20 points. If that interests you (it should), here’s how you can watch it:

Arizona State keys to victory
The keys to Arizona State victory are pretty simple. We know the defense is going to be solid, and as long as that remains true, the Sun Devils will be in this game. The key, is that Arizona State needs to learn from what Stanford did against San Diego State, and specifically what they did in the passing game.
JJ Arcega-Whiteside had six receptions, three scores, and 226 yards in that game. N’Keal Harry is even better than him. If Arizona State feeds their star receiver the ball, they should have no problem getting into the end zone and winning this game by several possessions.
San Diego State keys to victory
San Diego State needs to basically play a perfect game offensively. They need Juwan Washington to make big plays, which he really hasn’t been able to do yet. They also need him to average more than the 4.4 yards per carry he racked up last week against Sacramento State. More importantly, they need to find any kind of passing attack, and hope that their line can figure out how to give their quarterback some time.

Prediction
First and foremost, if you’re a betting person, put all of your money on the under, because there’s absolutely no way these teams are combining for 48 points. Neither team is interested in scoring, and this game will probably hold under 20 combined points. With that being said, I do think Arizona State is going to eventually win this game, even if they do it in an ugly way, because they’re just more talented than SDSU.
