Arizona State football: Sun Devils lose a wacky one to San Diego State
Well, that was certainly a football game. From stout defense, to ten minute possessions, to a game saving targeting call, this was a #Pac12AfterDark treat.
In what was an obvious letdown, look ahead game for Arizona State as they travelled to San Diego to take on the San Diego State Aztecs, the Sun Devils lived up to the expectations. They looked ahead to their battle with Washington next week, and they got caught sleeping by a mean and tough San Diego State team.
After the game was tied at 14 at the half, San Diego State dominated the second half, holding the ball for nearly the entire final 30 minutes, and doing exactly what they do best, in running the ball, keeping the game slow, and forcing Arizona State’s offense right back over to the sidelines whenever they stepped onto the field.
That dominant second half was enough for San Diego State to grab a big win for their program, as they ran out the clock on the Sun Devils on the way to their victory, despite a controversial ending where a targeting hit jarred the ball loose at the 1-yard-line. Arizona State was that close to coming out of the game with a 3-0 mark.
It was a big day for Juwan Washington, Chase Jasmin, and pretty much every running back on San Diego State’s roster. Let’s get right to the takes.
