Contenders continue to emerge for the 2018 Heisman Trophy. Big weeks from several quarterbacks made the Week 3 ranks challenging to assemble.

The Heisman Trophy race is shaping up to be one of the closest we will see in a long time. An upset in Madison may affect the chances of our number one player, and there were a number of quarterbacks who are making strong cases to be included in the Heisman discussion.

We saw a number of excellent performances in Week 3, and even with a hurricane canceling a few games of some of the leaders in the Heisman race, a few big-time players came through to put themselves in the conversation.

Before we get into our top five let’s take a look at the players who just missed the cut:

7. Tua Tagovailoa– Quarterback, Alabama

How many huge games can Tua put up in this Alabama offense? So far he has put up solid numbers for an Alabama quarterback, but is nowhere near the output that Jalen Hurts had when he won the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award. He took care of business against Ole Miss with 191 yards and two touchdowns on 15 attempts, but he will need 25-to-30 attempts to keep his name in contention.

6. Nick Bosa– Defensive End, Ohio State

Bosa continues to make plays for the Ohio State defense and he picked up a sack in the win against TCU. However, he went down with an injury early in the second half and if he misses a game or two he may come out of the discussion for the next couple of weeks.

While both players keep their names in contention, let’s look at our top five Heisman Trophy contenders.
