Notre Dame Football: 5 biggest overreactions from Vanderbilt scare
Notre Dame football has started the season off shaky. What was certain to be a top-15 team has played nothing like it, especially against Vanderbilt.
The Fighting Irish were near the top of a few major preseason publications as a team to watch out for in 2018. However as talented as the team is the offense hasn’t lived up to the expectations of a sometimes delusional fan base.
Their Week 3 matchup against Vanderbilt should have been a walk in the park, as the Commodores had been plagued by poor execution in crucial moments this season.
How should the Notre Dame faithful feel after barely squeaking by with another victory?
Here’s a look at all the things you will hear crazy Notre Dame fans talking about after the Week 3 win.
5. Brandon Wimbush should change positions
We heard all offseason how much work Notre Dame quarterback Brandon Wimbush put in to improve his passing accuracy, but so far this season that has been the main thing holding back the offense.
Wimbush is extremely dangerous running the ball but if Notre Dame is put in a second or third and long situation can he be trusted to make an accurate 15-yard pass down the field?
His completion percentage was over 50 percent in the game against Vandy, finishing 13-for-23 with 122 yards passing. He didn’t throw a touchdown but again was able to use his legs to make plays when the Irish needed them most.
He ran for 84 yards on 19 carries and a score, but Notre Dame cannot compete for the national championship if he isn’t able to throw for at least 200 yards per game.
Should Brian Kelly consider moving him to running back? It sounds insane but could be the recipe for success for this offense. If Wimbush has another poor game throwing the ball it may be time for the coaching staff to make a change to keep their playoff chances alive.
