Michigan football has rebounded since losing to Notre Dame in the opener, but Nebraska comes to town to kick off Big Ten play on Saturday.
Jim Harbaugh catches a lot of flak for his lack of big-time wins at Michigan. That’s not going to change after Saturday as Nebraska comes to town with an 0-2 record, looking like one of the worst teams in the Big Ten — yes, the same Nebraska coached by the great Scott Frost.
Nebraska isn’t a bad team, but it sure looks like one. The Cornhuskers lost a close heartbreaker against Colorado in their season opener after having the opener, a seemingly sure-win, against Akron cancelled and then lost at home to Troy. It seems as if the Cornhuskers have plenty of work to do, but getting Adrian Martinez healthy at quarterback is priority numero uno.
Martinez is expected to play against the Wolverines Saturday and they’ll have to game plan for one of the most dynamic freshman quarterbacks the Big Ten has seen in a while — he’s giving Nebraska fans flashbacks to Taylor Martinez. Can he help Nebraska pull off the upset?
It’s time to be bold ahead of Saturday’s Michigan vs. Nebraska game.
3. Nebraska held to under 250 total yards
While I think Adrian Martinez is an excellent quarterback and will be one of the most fun to watch in college football for the next 3-4 years, but he’ll be playing at less than full-strength, if he does play, against the Wolverines on the road Saturday afternoon.
Martinez has yet to play a road game at the collegiate level nor play a defense as elite as the Wolverines. He could be in for a rude awakening against this team, especially if he doesn’t get time to throw or lanes to run — which will be the case.
Michigan is going to eat Martinez alive and he’ll be able to use this as a learning experience. The run game won’t be able to bail him out, either, as Michigan’s rush defense is strong.
Nebraska won’t be able to reach the 250-yard mark on Saturday.
