After Hurricane Florence forced the cancellation of their game last week, Virginia Tech football returns with an interesting road tilt at Old Dominion this Saturday.
The Hokies will make the trip over the Norfolk, Virginia to tangle with an in-state rival after opening the year with wins over Florida State and William & Mary.
Virginia Tech enters having scored 86 points through two games and averaging over 450 yards of total offense. Josh Jackson leads the way, throwing for 424 yards with three scores.
Damon Hazelton has been Jackson’s best threat, catching six passes for 129 yards and two scores. DeShawn McClease leads a balanced ground game with 112 yards and a score.
For the Monarchs, it has been a difficult start to the season after close losses the last two weeks to Charlotte (28-25) and Florida International (28-20). Those results, though, look great compared to the opener, which was a 52-10 defeat at Liberty.
Dating back to last season, Old Dominion has lost four in a row since a late November win vs. Rice.
Steven Williams has thrown for 507 yards and has a big-play receiver in Jonathan Duhart, who has 17 receptions for 360 yards and three scores.

Keys to Victory
Old Dominion must find a way to keep the ball in its possession. The longer they can do that with sustained drives and by converting third downs, the longer they can hang around.
Make it a game in the second half, and the pressure will mount for Virginia Tech. Plus, the Hokies could be a bit rusty after not playing last weekend.

Prediction
Not a great time for the Monarchs to be welcoming Virginia Tech to town, as they are winless and will get a very well-rested Hokie team after weather forced a cancellation last week. Look for Virginia Tech to come out fast and put the game away before halftime.
Final Score: Virginia Tech 42, Old Dominion 7
