Auburn Football: Tigers cruise to effortless win over Arkansas
Auburn football seemingly sleepwalked its way to a blowout win over Arkansas but the Tigers needed this win after a tough home loss to LSU.
The Auburn Tiger entered the Week 4 SEC matchup at number nine in the country after a last second loss to LSU from a week ago. Similarly, Arkansas was coming off a loss as well. Except the Razorbacks loss was arguably much, much worse.
The Razorbacks were blown out at home against North Texas, 44-17, earning them the distinct title of “Worst Team in the SEC”.
Auburn’s first drive of the game ended with a five-yard touchdown run by JaTarvious Whitlow. The ease at which the Tigers scored on their first possession almost perfectly described how lopsided this game was. However, a better illumination of this came towards the end of the first quarter when Arkansas lined up to punt.
The Auburn player was able to get to the Arkansas punter so quickly, untouched, that he ran right by the punter and missed blocking the punt. The Tiger’s player got to the punter so quickly that he should have just tackled him.
However, before the first half was over, Auburn was able to successfully block a punt. By halftime, the score read 17-0 in favor of the Tigers.
After halftime, the game really started to go downhill. Arkansas was able to score a field goal on the Tigers. But on the kickoff immediately after that Razorback score, Auburn returner, Noah Igbinoghene, took the kickoff to the house for a 96-yard touchdown.
Jarret Stidham finished the game quietly, completing 15 of his 22 passing attempts for only 134 yards. The star quarterback had no passing touchdowns, but also did not throw an interception. However, Stidham accounted for a single rushing touchdown.
Next week, Auburn hosts Southern Mississippi for a game that should look very similar to this week’s game. The Tigers will not have to play tremendously in order to win easily. All they will have to do is exactly what they did today. Play well on defense and not turnover the ball. So long as the Auburn Tigers continue to do that, they will win future games against Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Liberty.
