Boston College football traveled to West Lafayette to face a winless Purdue team, but the Eagles didn’t come out with a victory. What’d we learn?

New to the AP Top 25, Boston College had a tough test ahead of it, facing Purdue on the road. The Boilermakers had not recorded a single win this season, but they came into the season with high expectations.

Jeff Brohm made sure his team didn’t go into full-blown panic mode and it proved on Saturday afternoon with a blowout win over the No. 23 team in the land.

It was a rough day for just about everyone on the Eagles’ roster, including AJ Dillon, but there’s room to grow for Boston College moving forward.

What’d we learn from the Eagles’ loss to Purdue in West Lafayette?

3. Passing defense not as good as once thought

Through three games, Boston College held teams to under 200 passing yards per game but the Eagles were torched by a suddenly-hot Purdue offense led by David Blough.

Blough went off for 296 yards and three touchdowns, completing 21-of-27 passes and got to do the victory formation at the end, which is the best set for a quarterback. He looked like one of the best passers in the country, following up his 500-yard outburst against Missouri the week before, but Boston College’s defense may not be quite as stingy as once perceived.

The Eagles will have a chance to bounce back and prove themselves next week against Temple, which should be a sure win.
