Notre Dame football continues to play with fire early on in the 2018 season. Will their luck run out in Week 4 against Wake Forest?

It’s a young season, and Notre Dame football already makes little to no sense. The Irish own a perfect record so far, but their three wins have put their fans on the edge of their seats, expecting far worse. Whether it was the poor play or a premonition of things to come, Notre Dame doesn’t enter the game against Wake Forest with much of their usual swagger.

Notre Dame is an eight-point favorite in Winston-Salem, the first time all season they’ve ventured outside of South Bend. Starting their first of four true road games this late in the season is a big win for the Irish, but it also contributes a cloud of uncertainty that will continue to hang over this program until they prove if they do or do not belong.

Rather than count on the coming improvement which has yet to appear through three weeks, it’s time to honestly assess where Notre Dame stands entering this matchup. It’s not all sunshine in roses, and Wake Forest might actually have the upper hand. Here’s why Notre Dame is officially on upset alert in Week 4.
