A week removed from an ugly beatdown at the hands of Alabama, Ole Miss football struggled to put away Kent State at home in Week 4.

Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford, Mississippi is usually the scene of an offensive explosion. The leaky Ole Miss defense combined with a potent offense makes for plenty of double-digit touchdown days and lots of excitement. That’s why it was particularly unsettling when Kent State and Ole Miss went to the locker room tied at 7-7 at halftime.

The scoring picked up in the second half, but it was, by and large, a strange afternoon for the Rebels and Flashes on Saturday afternoon. When the dust settled, Ole Miss’ talent won out and the Rebels left the field as narrow victors over a Kent State team that gave them more fits than they would have expected entering the weekend.

This was one that Ole Miss will look to put behind them as quickly as possible. The final score was in their favor, and that’s the only thing the Rebels will want to hold onto from this disheartening home performance in a game in which they were heavy favorites.
