1. Did Nick Saban kill the Ole Miss offense?

The Ole Miss offense has been one of the most consistent units in college football. The Rebels averaged 40.8 points per game in 2015, 32.6 in 2016, 32.8 in 2017. They opened the 2018 season by hanging 47 points on Texas Tech and 76 on Southern Illinois.

After averaging 61.5 points per game to start the season it seemed to be business as usual when they began the Alabama game with a quick one-play 75-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Ta’amu to D.K. Metcalf. Then the wheels literally fell off.

Ole Miss was shutout in the final 59 minutes and 11 seconds of that game. They scored 24 points in their next 45 minutes of play against Kent State before piling on a few garbage time scores.

The truth is usually somewhere in the middle of two extremes. That’s most likely the case here, but the calamitous disappearing act should concern the Rebels who hit the road to take on a red-hot LSU team next weekend. If the offense doesn’t work through their funk quickly that game could end up being a repeat of the Alabama massacre.
