West Virginia football opened conference play on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium, defeating the Kansas State Wildcats, 35-6.

After not playing NC State last week due to Hurricane Florence, the Mountaineers returned to the field Saturday against Kansas State. Although they struggled early, the final score wouldn’t tell that story.

Connecting with Gary Jennings, David Sills, and Marcus Simms on the first couple plays seemed promising, but the ‘Eers opening drive stalled when quarterback Will Grier threw an interception. Freshman running back Leddie Brown fumbled the ball back to the Wildcats on the following possession, but thankfully defensive coordinator Tony Gibson and his unit were prepared.

Failing to get a crack at quarterback Ryan Finley and NC State had people questioning WVU’s 2018 opponents thus far, but anything can happen once in conference play – even West Virginia keeping their opponent out of the endzone.

Saturday’s West Virginia win was the third consecutive in the series for the Mountaineers and they are now 4-5 against the Wildcats all-time. We’ve got three takeaways from West Virginia’s Week 4 victory.
