2. Brian Kelly will take himself off the hot seat

Coach Kelly moving on from Wimbush may be viewed as a knee jerk reaction, but it was the smart decision. While it is smart to adapt to your quarterback’s style of play to ensure team success, Wimbush wasn’t making it easy to keep him in the game on third and long situations.

The move should help Kelly get firmly off the hot seat in the national media. The Fighting Irish finish the second half of the season with winnable games and should be favored in all of them.

If Notre Dame gets to 11 or 12 wins they Kelly may even get another contract extension, after signing one in 2016.

Has Kelly been the best coach this school has had since Lou Holtz? He’s certainly brought in a lot of talent but the Fighting Irish always seem to fall just short, but this year they could go undefeated in the regular season.

The matchup next week against Stanford will decide whether they can get into the playoffs, as a win over Virginia Tech won’t hold as much merit after the Hokies were beaten by Old Dominion in Week 4.
