We are now only five weeks away from the initial College Football Playoff rankings. Here are the projected top four teams following Week 4.

Naturally, as the weeks go on, fewer and fewer teams remain undefeated. Initially, this allows us to focus our attention on a smaller number of teams in consideration for the College Football Playoff. However eventually, nearly every team has at least one loss. For now, that is not the case.

Below is a list of college football’s undefeated teams (in no particular order…) who are in either in the top 25, or may reach the top 25 should their undefeated season continue:

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Clemson
  4. Ohio State
  5. LSU
  6. Stanford
  7. Penn State
  8. Notre Dame
  9. Oklahoma
  10. UCF
  11. Duke
  12. Kentucky
  13. USF
  14. North Texas
  15. Colorado
  16. Cincinnati
  17. Syracuse
  18. Cal
  19. Buffalo
  20. NC State

The assumption is, that after last year’s controversy regarding UCF going undefeated and beating Auburn in the 2018 Peach Bow, the College Football Playoff Committee will give much more consideration to undefeated teams. But let’s be honest, nobody really knows how the committee decides on the final rankings.

Last week, No. 5 Oklahoma was the first team out of the top 4 projection. After a near upset at home against Army, confidence in the Sooner’s drops even more so. The Oklahoma defense has been a weak point and was exposed against Army.

No. 7 Stanford earned a quality win against No. 20 Oregon. Additionally, No. 6 LSU beat Louisiana Tech by 17 points. Both teams gain traction as possible contenders for a top 4 spot. For now, though, they remain out.
