Clemson Football: 5 transfer destinations for Kelly Bryant
By Dana Becker
It’s been a very difficult week for Kelly Bryant, as the Clemson football senior quarterback was demoted and has since announced his intent to transfer.
Bryant, who led the Tigers to another ACC title and a spot in the College Football Playoff last year, was benched for talented freshman Trevor Lawrence heading into Saturday’s game with Syracuse.
After getting the nod to start the first four games, Bryant shared time over each contest with Lawrence. He performed admirably, completing 66 percent of his passes for 456 yards, but had just two touchdowns.
Lawrence hit on 39 of 61 over those same four games for 600 yards with nine touchdowns. That is the reason for the decision, as Clemson is 4-0, but Lawrence has provided much, much more offense in his time on the field.
With the NCAA’s new transfer rules kicking in this season, it is not too crazy to hear that Bryant has skipped both Monday and Tuesday practice sessions. After some soul searching, Bryant will transfer from Clemson.
Bryant sat his first two seasons behind Deshaun Watson, learning from the current Houston Texan quarterback as he saw action in 11 games. Last year, he was 262-for-398 for 2,802 yards with 13 touchdowns, adding another 665 yards and 11 scores on the ground.
So, if this is it for KB2 in a Clemson uniform, where might we see the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder next year assuming the school lets him freely decide? Here are five possible destinations:
