Most teams held position in the Group of Five power rankings this week, with only one team falling out. Here are this week’s rankings ahead of Week 5 play.

It was a chaotic weekend throughout college football, as five teams dropped out of the AP Top 25 after Week 4 was in the books. Upsets resounded throughout the country, and that helped bolster the case for several Group of Five teams — both because of upsets they pulled off themselves and because of losses around them.

Ultimately, while the crazy weekend impacted the hierarchies at the top of the FBS, they had less of an overall impact on the hierarchy of Group of Five contenders. The teams that entered the weekend with the best chances of winning their respective conferences and challenging for a New Year’s Six bowl spot are the same teams that exited the weekend in the best position to earn that elusive bid.

This week, only one team drops out of the Group of Five Power Rankings. Akron fell 26-13 at Iowa State, hardly a disqualifying indictment of the Zips. But even while it was a relatively closely-fought contest against a Power Five opponent, there are still simply too many good teams among the mid-majors to keep Terry Bowden’s crew up in the top 10 this week.
